With her inauguration less than two days away, the Vice President-elect and her husband Doug Emhoff spent part of this Martin Luther King Day volunteering in Washington, DC.
The Biden-Harris inaugural committee designated today a National Day of Service as a way of celebrating and honoring Dr. Martin Luther King. The pair was at Martha’s Table, an organization working to “support stronger children, stronger families, and stronger communities by increasing access to quality education programs, healthy food, and family supports.”
The couple packed produce for grocery bags that Martha’s Table will distribute. More from CNN, quoting Ms. Harris:
“We are here today as part of what we collectively, all of us who are volunteering, see as our responsibility as part of Dr. King’s legacy,” she said. “And we’re here to obviously renew the commitment that we should each have to service, and to serve others, especially those in need.”
CNN also reports Ms. Harris said she’s “very much looking forward to being sworn in.”
“I will walk there, to that moment, proudly with my head up and my shoulders back,” Harris told reporters after volunteering at a food bank.”
Below, a video posted on the VPE’s Twitter account.
Alexandra Jaffe of AP reports that there were “six teenagers here working alongside them, and she told them, “Cmon, we gotta get this done!”
Now for our overview of what Ms. Harris wore today. It looks like she was wearing the Cirruslite 2.0 Down Parka ($79.99, originally $169) by US retailer Eddie Bauer.
The lightweight jacket has a two-way front zipper, hood, and zippered side pockets. The shell is water-resistant polyester, and the filling meets Responsible Down Standards, which “ensure humane treatment of the waterfowl providing down and feathers for apparel and home products.” The piece is available in regular, petite, and most tall sizes; all plus sizes are sold out. The style is also available in limited sizes at Amazon ($130.99) and Walmart ($130.99) and in an earlier version in navy blue at Amazon ($58.88).
Ms. Harris was also wearing black trousers and what may have been her Prada boots, shown below when worn on another occasion.
The Vice President-elect also wore a pair of earrings I don’t recall seeing before.

Earlier today, the Vice President-elect officially resigned from her Senate seat. She posted a thank-you message on social media.
Also, rehearsals continued for Wednesday’s ceremony throughout the day. Below you see the stand-ins for President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris.

Tomorrow we will see the President-elect and Vice President-elect with their spouses at a ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial. The 5:30pm event will include a special lighting ceremony around the Reflecting Pool to memorialize American lives lost to COVID-19. Yolanda Adams will perform at the event, and Cardinal Wilton Gregory, Archbishop of Washington, will deliver an invocation. Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris will both speak at the event.
We’ll leave with this image from the Inaugural Committee’s art display that was unveiled tonight. It features more than 200,000 state flags and 56 pillars of light, the latter representing the states and US territories.
