When campaigning in Detroit in September the Senator wore a piece from Hermès, the brand’s Kawa Ora Shawl.
Crafted of a blend of 70% cashmere/30% silk, the design is by native New Zealander Te Rangitu Netana and done in the Marine/Blanc/Bleu Électrique colorway. Te Rangitu Netan is a Maori tattoo artist, and he says he hopes the design represents his “personal vision as a Maori artist” and underscores “our connection to nature, underlining how relevant it is to protect our native wisdom.” Read more about the intricate design and what it represents on Te Rangitu Netan’s website here; the Hermès product page also has details and more about the piece here.
