The Vice President chose Prabal Gurung for this morning’s Inaugural Prayer Service. Here you see the Vice President and Second Gentleman with their hands over their hearts as Patti LaBelle sang the National Anthem.
The Washington National Cathedral hosted the virtual event. In addition to Ms. LaBelle, there were performances by the Clark Sisters and Josh Groban. Bishop William Barber II, co-founder of the Poor People’s Campaign, preached on the topic “A National Call for Moral Revival.”

Harper’s Bazaar reports the Vice President wore a “garnet-hued double-faced wool crepe dress with a matching coat. Both pieces were hand-tailored in Gurung’s atelier in New York.” You get a better look at the ensemble in this photo posted by the Second Gentleman, Doug Emhoff, on Instagram.
In this photo, taken this afternoon, you also see Dr. Anthony Fauci, the administration’s chief medical advisor. He remains the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Prabal Gurung posted his reaction to seeing the Vice President in his ensemble on Instagram.
On Twitter, the designer wrote, “Gratitude, immense gratitude.” The designer referenced his heritage in his Instagram post.
It is nearly impossible to truly sum up the magnitude of this moment for me. To see Vice President @kamalaharris wearing our designs this morning, just one day after being sworn in as the first-ever female, Black, and South Asian American Vice President of the United States of America, is my American Dream coming true all over again.”
My story is one that could only be possible in America: an immigrant who was born in Singapore and raised in Nepal and India coming here – a land of endless possibilities – to pursue their wildest ambitions.
Below, three runway looks from the Fall 2020 collection.
More about Mr. Gurung and his label comes via Business of Fashion.
The Nepalese-American fashion designer Prabal Gurung launched his line in 2009 at New York Fashion Week. The designer’s line is now sold in over twenty countries, is featured in fashion’s top publications and is regularly worn by those in the public eye. The designer counts Michelle Obama, The Duchess of Cambridge, Sarah Jessica Parker and Anne Hathway as fans.
Born in Singapore and raised in Kathmandu Gurung began his design career in New Delhi, before moving to New York to complete his design studies at Parsons The New School of Design. He has since become a US citizen and resides in New York.
Long an advocate for social justice, Mr. Gurung has helped raise awareness and funds for various organizations. A vocal supporter of the Biden-Harris ticket, he designed a tee-shirt for the Believe in Better collection of fundraising items by noted designers.
Ms. Harris has worn Prabal Gurung before and was not the only family member in the label for Inaugural events. Last night Meena Harris, the Vice President’s niece, wore a dress by Prabal Gurung for the Celebrate America event. (I am looking for a photo and will add it if I can locate one.)
The Vice President accessorized with her Tahitian pearl necklace and earrings. It looked like she had on her Manolo Blahnik ‘Lisa’ in either the 70 or 90mm height. Below you see the style in the lower height as worn on another occasion.
NOTE: For those who may have missed last night’s Sergio Hudson ensemble (seen below), I added that content to the post covering the day’s earlier events. In retrospect, it would have been better to give the evening ensemble its own post. Click here for the post and scroll past the earlier portion of the coverage.

Thank you! This is very nice and I am enjoying these posts a lot!
It would help for those of us in other countries if you would add the actual date of these events, since “today” or “last night” is not always enough for those of us with dateline difficulties. God knows we don’t get enough fun news as it is.
Keep up the good work!

Vice President Harris looked wonderful in Prabal Gurung. I’m embarrassed to say I honestly liked it much better than her inauguration outfit.
I also love that Harris is using dresses to set the standard for presidential fashion. So many women in politics are addicted to pants suits.
Thank you for this blog. No one else is covering the Vice President’s fashion with such depth.
